The FAFSA: your ticket to financial aid

Paying for college without financial aid is like trying to cross the ocean in a rowboat. It might be technically possible, but why try? Especially when the Free Application for Federal Student Aid is your key to a more affordable college degree. But deadlines are looming so if you haven't submitted it yet, here's what to remember:

Most schools base their aid awards on information gathered in the FAFSA

Filling it out gives you the opportunity to get federal grants, federal student loans, work-study, and even scholarship money awarded by the school itself.

The earlier you fill out the FAFSA, the better

Schools often distribute aid money on a first-come, first-served basis. That means you should fill it out as soon as possible.

You should fill it out even if you don't think you'll qualify for any aid

Not filling it out could be the most expensive mistake of your life. And even if you don't qualify for any free money like grants or scholarships, you'll gain access to low-interest federal loans.

The FAFSA is simple and you can fill it out yourself—but if you need help, it's out there

FAFSA.com can offer professional guidance or help you fill out the FAFSA accurately.

Tip of the week
You can turn your class notes into cash.

Flashnotes lets you make money for work you do anyway. Set your own price and get paid cash for your study guides, lecture notes, flashcards, and more! Students have made over $500 week selling their class materials.
