Summer is the season of saving!

Summer months are good for three things: getting a sunburn, wearing a sombrero, and saving money for next semester. We financial types don't know much about fun-in-the-sun, so we'll leave the beach cruising to you. But we do know how to make summer a little easier on your wallet:

Find a job

Seasonal restaurants, resorts, camps, and parks need college students for temporary summer positions. Take advantage of that.

Do an internship

Especially if you can get college credit for it. The experience will help you find a job in the future and the college credits will save you money in the long run, even if the internship is unpaid.

Take summer courses

Yeah, summer session costs money. But it also helps you finish school early. Taking them can shave a whole semester or year off your education.

Travel cheaply, or for college credit

Working or studying abroad can be a great way to see the world, vacation a bit, and earn college credit, which can help offset the costs. Check with your school directly to see if they offer any programs for students.

Volunteer

If you can't find summer employment, channel your inner Gandhi or Mother Theresa. It'll keep you busy, it'll help you spend less, and most of all, it'll bolster your resume. This is key when you're applying for scholarships and jobs in the future.
